[Inscription]
Spring water at the cliff’s door. Clouds float gently over the mountain, and rocks rise layer upon layer in the water. The woods grow high and dense, and the cliffs are dark and mysterious. East Ridge stands especially tall, rising a thousand feet from the earth. It towers over the surrounding peaks, still bearing the colors of ancient times. The mountain’s roots plunge into the river, its blue-green stones sharp and jagged. The summit reaches above the clouds, and the old trees bend toward the water. The cliff gate overlooks the deep valley, and the steep path winds downward. I wish to bring a pot of wine to comfort the recluse who lives here. Painted during Minor Snow in the year of Gengchen, borrowing the title from a Yuan poet’s poem, Chunbo, Chou Chen.
