Tianrao said to Duke Ai: 'Have you not observed the rooster? The one with a comb on its head is a sign of culture; the one with strong spurs on its feet is a sign of martial ability; the one that dares to fight when the enemy is in front is a sign of courage; the one that shares its food with others is a sign of benevolence; the one that keeps watch at night and never misses its time is a sign of trustworthiness. The rooster possesses these five virtues.
